Term 4 is such a special time in the school year.It is not just about wrapping things up but celebrating the incredible growth and achievements of our students. One of the highlights for me this week has been the guard of honour for our Year 10 students on Thursday afternoon, as they finished their journey at Emmanuel. Seeing them run through a tunnel of cheering staff, students, and families is always a powerful moment and a longstanding tradition for our school. For many of us, it is especially meaningful because we have watched these students grow from their first steps in primary school to this significant milestone. It is a true celebration of their journey and the community that has supported them. In a few weeks, we will also celebrate our Year 6 students as they prepare to transition to secondary school. The Christmas assembly, another favourite, brings the whole school together for a moment of gratitude and reflection. Our Kindergarten students will also be celebrating the conclusion of their first year of school. This marks a significant milestone, and it is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate this achievement with the youngest members of our community. These events are more than just traditions; they are opportunities to recognise the year’s challenges and triumphs, and to savour the joy of being part of such a vibrant school community. Looking back, we have so much to celebrate from this year. Our Nature School initiative has been a tremendous success, inspiring creativity and curiosity, while teaching us to marvel at God’s creation. Another exciting milestone is the upcoming opening of our new building, a space that will provide even greater opportunities for learning and collaboration. It is a testament to the growth of our school community and God’s provision throughout the year. I would like to encourage our families and students to take the opportunity to pause and appreciate the special moments that will unfold in the coming weeks. Christmas provides a meaningful conclusion to the year, offering a chance not only to reflect on the journey we have undertaken but also to celebrate the birth of our precious Saviour. I can think of no more fitting way to describe this season—a time marked by the closing of chapters, moments of celebration, and the anticipation of a well-deserved break on the horizon. May this season bring a sense of calm, joy, and gratitude to our community as we prepare to embrace the year ahead. ‘And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.’ – Colossians 3:15

Over the last few weeks in Year 7 Mathematics, we have been doing a data and statistics unit based around one of Tasmania’s most hidden bike adventures: The Tassie Gift 2024. Each student was able to choose a rider, and record data (such as speed, gradient of the hill, and distance travelled) in real time. We used this data when we discussed mean, median, mode, and range, and we presented the data in frequency tables and stem and leaf plots. The class discussed different types of data (based off an interview with the riders) and designed their own projects to collect and display data. Jonathan Bentley - Secondary Teacher
